What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural, holistic therapy that is based on the fact that all systems of the body – organs, muscles, etc. – have corresponding reflex points on the feet and hands. By gently applying pressure to these reflex points, your nervous system becomes activated, allowing for energy to flow more freely throughout the body – like electricity going through a house. This improved circulation speeds up the healing process and shifts bottled-up tension out of your body, leading to a deep sense of relaxation and leaving you feeling more balanced as a whole.

Treatments

Reflexology

I take care to adapt reflexology treatment to your specific needs. If you are experiencing high levels of stress, I will focus on promoting deep relaxation, allowing you to truly switch off and let your everyday worries float away. Perhaps you need help with headaches or migraines, in which case I will adapt treatment to target this area. My expertise also includes dedicated reflexology treatment for pregnant women – a wonderful opportunity to forget your everyday anxieties and focus purely on yourself and your baby. I also offer hand reflexology treatment if your feet are not accessible for any reason.

Indian Head Massage

Along with reflexology in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, I also provide a calming, de-stressing Indian Head Massage treatment, using an Ayurvedic approach that encompasses a balancing of mind, body, and spirit. If you feel like you need to clear your mind, this treatment is for you. We hold high levels of tension in our head and neck area, causing us to feel stressed throughout the day, and this service is designed to shift that blocked energy and leave you with greater clarity and improved mental wellbeing.

Initial consultation

When I meet you, we will go over a medical questionnaire. This takes 20-30 minutes and allows me to personalise treatment to your needs. I will briefly discuss how the treatment will go before commencing, staying quiet during the process so that you can properly unwind. Once I have finished, I will provide information on my findings and we will agree on what exact treatment you need moving forward.

Please note that neither reflexology nor massage claims to diagnose, cure, or prescribe any particular conditions you might have.

My Story

For over 25 years, I worked as a Registered Midwife and Nurse, and never had any thoughts about being a reflexologist in Blairgowrie, Perthshire. However, over time, I became fascinated with the way reflexology provided relief to people with all kinds of issues, and as a result, I decided to use my clinical background to become a fully qualified reflexologist.

In 2017, I gained my Practitioner’s Diploma in Clinical Reflexology with Distinction, and completed further training in 2018, gaining an SCQF, Level 6 Diploma in Indian Head Massage, as well as a qualification in Maternity Reflexology ahead of opening my business in the same year. I have since met clients from all walks of life and differing occupations, and take great joy in providing a complementary therapy that suits their needs, whatever they may be.

Frequently asked questions

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

This depends on the individual. Some only come once or twice as a way of destressing, while others come once a month to keep themselves balanced. Many people, however, decide to schedule a course of sessions – four to six visits – in order to ensure they find the right kind of reflexology in Blairgowrie, Perthshire and get genuine relief from stress and/or painful physical conditions.

Does reflexology hurt?

Reflexology shouldn’t be painful. If you have a sore or some other ailment on your feet, I will work on your hands instead. You might feel a slight bit of discomfort, but this won’t last for long. Through carefully applying pressure to the sensitive area, I will unblock any high levels of tension on your feet, taking care to ensure you are comfortable at all times.

Are There Any Conditions That Prevent Me From Having Reflexology?

Reflexology is unsuitable for people with thrombosis, phlebitis, gangrene, unstable heart conditions, or any contagious disease/virus. If you have any of these conditions, please consult with your doctor before coming to reflexology.

What Happens During Reflexology?

If I am working on your feet, shoes and socks will be removed and sanitised. You aren’t required to remove any other articles of clothing. There will be a brief explanation of the treatment ahead of me getting started. I will then apply gentle pressure to specific parts of your feet over the course of around 60 minutes. You will always be given a few moments to relax, breathe, and get ready to leave the room in your own time at the end of the session.

How Will I Feel After Reflexology?

At the end of our session, you will feel relaxed, grounded, and lighter on your feet, due to the way reflexology helps the energy flow more freely around your body. You might even feel slightly sleepy. Some clients experience a mild headache or need to use the toilet more frequently, which is a good sign, as this shows that toxins have been expelled from your body during the reflexology treatment.
